A Mountain of Anime News Dropped Over the Festive Season

The winter break present a multitude of pursuits much better than checking the headlines: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and using deep breathing to avoid yelling at loved ones. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling news items emerged during the break, and just in case you overlooked some of them, here is a summary of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Perhaps the most shocking announcement, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to deter further production. The show will return with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they could have called it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which is seen as a good sign. However, the main art for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, at this point, they are probably teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' affection and goodwill, and now the community is ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was yet another outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will very likely air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio famous for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season

Right after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has not been disclosed yet.
