Peak Pizza? Domino's Pizza CEO Steps Down After Shift Towards Chicken.
The boss of the UK's Domino's Pizza chain who proposed the United Kingdom might have reached peak pizza while broadening the franchise into poultry items has been ousted after tensions with its governing body.
Leadership Shake-Up
Andrew Rennie is exiting after just two years in charge, and will be replaced on an interim basis by the organization's operations head, Frampton, while the pizza giant searches for a new leader.
The outgoing executive, who worked for the company for a substantial period, had sought to redirect the UK's leading pizza takeaway chain towards poultry-based products, remarking in a recent interview there was not “significant expansion” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He observed chicken was the fastest-growing menu item in the globe.
Governance Tensions
Sources suggest that there was tension between Rennie and the directors over his strategy and management style, although the company's release said he was leaving “through mutual consent”.
New Product Launch
In September, Domino's introduced its chicken-focused product line – which Rennie referred to as a “significant new phase” for the company – and is trialling it in over 200 locations in the north-west of England and the province.
While the business is still planning to expand it across its almost 1,400 stores in the coming year as intended, it regards fried chicken as an addition to its primary pizza operations.
Leadership Statement
The Domino's chair, the Domino's chair, said: “We are confident that there are a series of prospects to boost expansion and performance improvement in Domino's core business. We are concentrating on identifying the suitable leader to oversee the systematic rollout of that development approach.”
Market Challenges
In the latest update, the pizza delivery giant, which has millions of users in the UK and Ireland, said orders dipped by one and a half percent in the Q3. In the summer, it warned that the quick-service industry had “intensified” as it blamed weaker consumer confidence in the run-up to the government announcement and increasing labor expenses for weaker-than-expected sales and a significant fall in half-year profits.
Competitors are also facing challenges. Another major chain disclosed the closure of 68 restaurants a last month, after the business behind its outlets fell into administration.
Wellness Efforts
Trying to keep up with customer preferences towards balanced diets, Domino's has rolled out lower-calorie options, such as its light base range of pizzas below 400 calories as well as meat-free and wheat-free pizzas. A big pepperoni bake has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has 2,171, while a individual has 909 calories.
Interim Leadership
The interim chief has been with Domino's since 2021, and had a background at the gambling company William Hill. It is understood that she prefers not to occupy the chief executive role on a full-time basis.
Frampton stated: “Our team has a multiple current development and performance initiatives that we will be dedicated to implementing at a rapid rate.”
She said these included additional efforts on the organization's procurement system and new item creation, and its loyalty scheme.
Domino's is also without a full-time finance director until 16 March, when Andrea joins from the drinks company a well-known firm. Until then, Richard Snow is acting financial officer.
