Six Individuals Detained After 12 Million Euro Robbery on Gold Processing Laboratory in France
A group of six individuals using high-powered firearms used explosive devices to breach the security of a gold refining laboratory located in the city of Lyon, resulting in minor injuries to five employees during what is being called the newest significant daylight theft to affect the nation.
The bold operation was carried out on Thursday late morning, with officers rapidly detaining the individuals believed responsible and recovering the stolen goods valued at approximately €12 million (£10.5 million), officials reported.
Five workers of the gold refining company received light wounds from the blast, and three employees required hospital checks for assessment, the regional prefecture announced. A total of twenty-eight staff were inside the facility when the perpetrators raided.
The individuals, thought to be career criminals, were detained a brief time later in the nearby town of the town of Vénissieux, a source close to the investigation stated.
A woman involved who took part in the raid was also apprehended, a police source indicated.
“Six people who used detonations in an assault targeting a gold refining facility in Lyon, France were apprehended red-handed,” France's security official announced via X, praising officers for their “quick action, authority and management”.
Assault rifles, handguns and explosives were also confiscated.
The robbery occurred as French police on the same day arrested five more suspects, including a primary suspect, in connection with this month's brazen Louvre museum robbery.
Numerous detectives have been searching for four perpetrators who utilized a lorry with a hydraulic lift and cutting gear to breach a first-floor gallery at the museum on the nineteenth of October, escaping with precious items estimated to be worth €88M.
