Rock Climbing in the Peaks
Including absolute novices will soon be climbing protected Peak District outcrops on this two-day program. Participants will become proficient in tying in, safety techniques and several climbing techniques, as well as descending. Limited to six participants to each tutor, there is plenty of personalized coaching and tailored objectives. This program is suitable for all individuals aged 13 and over, from first-time climbers to those with limited gym climbing background. It is non-residential course, but you can find a selection of recommended, affordable lodging nearby, such as campgrounds, hostels, bed and breakfasts and inns. The venue is a brief walk from Bamford railway station, which is on the rail route from Manchester to Sheffield.

Non-Representational Art in Spain
This historic hillside village, a picturesque town in southern Spain, about a short drive from Granada, is the breathtaking setting for this painting holiday. Artists of every skill level – including beginners – will be taught how to conceive and execute modern art. A portion of the time will be spent outdoors, working on structured activities out in nature. These initial sketches and watercolour studies will then be developed in the workspace, with attendees creating several abstract landscapes in acrylic paint to be displayed in the local community. The group has sole use of the hotel, which is built around an open courtyard and has a sun terrace with panoramic vistas over the hills. The cost includes five days of art instruction; full board; and an outing to the nearby fortress and other local sights.

Vegetarian Culinary in the Algarve
This sun-drenched cooking retreat, set on a villa by the river in the central Algarve, is draws inspiration from the vegetarian dishes of celebrated cooks. Participants will master the art of meze spreads, attend a falafel-making workshop, refine mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make hearty mains including a rich mushroom stew and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the local market and a local vineyard to sample Portuguese wines, combined with leisure time for strolls by the Funcho River, to unwind on the terrace or swim in the pool. The farmhouse, a renovated rural property, has five bedrooms, as well as glamping tents in the grounds.

Street Dance in High Wycombe
This energetic camp is an energizing, welcoming three-day adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The format throughout the camp is a high-energy warm-up session, followed by three 90-minute workshops covering different urban dance forms, then an hour-long jam to demonstrate those solos. Dancers are split into levels according to skill level, so it is suitable for those who are brand new to popping and locking, all the way to advanced dancers or teachers. The camp does not provide accommodation but there are a number of places to stay within walking distance, and it is 23-35 minutes by train into central London.

Maritime Singing Weekend in Cornwall
St Ives is the ideal location for a sea shanty weekend. Guests will learn historic sailing songs from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at writing their own. The schedule includes vocal warmups, breath control techniques, performance tips and a final evening concert. The holiday is held in a rural hotel with views of the bay. Full board are included, such as a Cornish cream tea on the first day, cooked or continental breakfasts, packed lunches and three-course dinners. Traditional rum, alas, is not provided. Everyone join in: “What will we do with the drunken sailor …?”

Creative Writing in Greece
Writer and tutor an experienced instructor leads the daily workshops on this authors' getaway. He covers everything from story structure, characters, setting and suspense, to sending manuscripts to agents. A co-host, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will co-host events at the start and finish of the retreat. The holiday is based at a traditional complex in Vamos at the base of the White mountains – 10 private accommodations are set around a garden and pool (non-writing partners are encouraged to come along). On the final evening, aspiring writers mark the occasion with a musical performance in the courtyard and a farewell dinner.

Introduction to Apiculture in Mid Wales
The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a host of programs covering sustainability: from creating habitats to upcycling. This two-day introduction will help participants get to grips with the basics of apiary management, explore the biology of bees and learn about their ecological importance. It is designed to produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. This course is also a chance to relax in the organization's carefully maintained woodlands, which are home to polecats, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and uncommon bird species. Bed and breakfast the night before is 80 pounds, and all meals and lodging during the course is £97.

Yachting for Novices in the Blackwater Estuary
These recently launched summer sailing weekends are spent on Wayfarers and keelboats on the estuary in Essex. They are designed for adult beginners starting out or more experienced mariners who want a skills update. Sailors can hone their helming, build their seamanship and aim for the recognized levels one to three in a supportive atmosphere. There are non-residential and residential options, with accommodation in basic shared rooms in the waterfront training centre.
