The Former President's Actions Pose a Threat to Civilization.
The national and international policies – including the attempted coup previously to current moves and threats – weaken both national and global jurisprudence. The implications are broader.
They threaten the fundamental meaning of a civilized world.
The guiding principle of civilized society is to prevent the stronger from attacking and exploiting the weaker. Failing that, we would be trapped in a conflict of all against all where might makes right wins.
This principle lies at the center of the Declaration and Constitution. This is also the heart of the postwar international order supported by the America, which stresses collective action, democratic governance, human rights, and the legal authority.
Yet, it is a fragile ideal, easily violated by those who would exploit their authority. Preserving it demands that the influential have the moral fortitude to refrain from seeking short-term wins, and that society ensure they answer for their actions should they falter.
Unfettered might does not equal right. It leads to instability, disruption, and war.
Every time individuals, companies, or nations that are advantaged attack and exploit those that are weaker, the fabric of society unravels. If these actions are not contained, the structure collapses. Allowing it to persist, the world can plunge into instability and violence. It has happened before.
Today, we live in a society and world marked by extreme inequality. Political and economic power are increasingly centralized than ever before. This encourages the privileged to leverage their position against the weaker because they feel untouchable.
The resources of a small group of ultra-wealthy individuals is staggering. The influence of global industrial giants extends over numerous countries. AI is poised to consolidate economic and political clout even more. The destructive power of the leading countries is unmatched in the annals of time.
Empowered by a compliant faction and a sympathetic high court, the highest office has been made into the supreme and answerable-to-none instrument of state power in the modern era.
Combine these factors and you see the looming crisis.
A direct line connects earlier breaches of norms to current provocations. These were based on the overconfidence of invincibility.
One observes parallel dynamics in the actions of other powers: in military conflicts, in strategic threats, and in the rampant monopolization by massive conglomerates.
However, strength without restraint does not establish right. It produces uncertainty, upheaval, and war.
The lessons of the past reveal that laws and norms to limit the influential also protect them. Without such constraints, their endless appetite for greater influence and riches eventually bring them down – taking down their corporations, nations, or empires. And pave the way for global conflict.
This kind of lawlessness will haunt America and the global community – and the very idea of civilization – for a long time.
